Quantum Turrets
The latest innovation in weapons technology, they are currently
found only
in the Sovereign I & II classes. Jointly developed
with the Quantum torpedo
technology, they are capable of allowing starships outfitted with
them to fire
torpedoes off the centerline and directly at the target. This
reduces torpedo
travel time, and greatly increases the chances of a hit.
To illustrate the advantages, we have prepared two diagrams below
for you.
As you can clearly see, the advantages of this system are of
considerable
importance in close in "knifefights" with
small, highly manuverable vessels,
such as Dominion Attack Ships.
Currently, there are two different models in service in
Starfleet. They are listed
below.
Quantum Turret Mark I:
This was the first model to enter fleet service, mounted in the
new Sovereign-class
vessels. It can fire a volley of five quantum torpedoes before
reloading, which takes
approximately five seconds.
Quantum Turret Mark II:
This model is exclusive to the new Sovereign-II
subclass. The USS Hood is
the first
to be outfitted with them, and carries not just one, but three
of them, allowing simultaneous
enagement of multiple targets with direct torpedo fire, a first
in Starfleet. It fires a volley of
ten torpedoes before reloading, which takes approximately six
seconds. It can aquire targets
in half the time of the previous model.
