Commander Nathan "Enforcer" Yates
Commander
Nathan Yates has led quite a checkered career in the Imperial
Navy, and the story
of how he picked up the "Enforcer" moniker and callsign
is still legendary within Naval circles.
He was born on Corellia to techs who worked in Corellia's
spaceports as maintenance workers
who repaired every kind of damage to ships, from accidental to
battle damage caused by deals
gone bad -- no questions asked.
As a result, their services were in high demand on Corellia, so
they ended up being quite
prosperous.
Unfortunately, their 'no questions asked' policy doomed
them. They repaired the ship of
the Bloodkurst Clan's leader. Unbeknownst to them, the Bloodkurst Clan was locked
in a fierce turf war with the Pilak Clan.
Pirates don't like people who help their rivals.
Yates was just returning from a date when he arrived to find his
family's house aflame,
his family brutally murdered by the Pilak Clan. They had left
their unmistakable logo, a
woon'tak's heart lying on the sidewalk outside the Yates home.
Before that moment, Nathan Yates hadn't even thought about
joining the Imperial Navy.
To him, Imperial service was for retards and sadists who enjoyed
inflicting pain. At that moment,
he swore to bring the pirates to justice.
The Corellian authorities weren't that helpful, as Yates later
discovered, because the pirates
were paying them off.
So, he decided to do the unthinkable -- join the Imperial Navy,
in the hopes that he'd get
a shot at the pirates.
He chose the Starfighter corps because in fighters, he wouldn't
have to rely much on others,
and because it made him feel like an underdog, as he liked seeing
the odds get beat.
(Except for Endor, of course!)
The young, indecisive youth that Yates was quickly dissappeared,
to be replaced by a warrior who
enjoyed the thrill of battle and believed in winning by any means
necessary, even if it meant
following dishonorable orders.
If it meant strafing a city to get the other side to surrender,
he'd do it if it ensures his comrades
survive and the fighting stops.
Yates had quite a successful career in the Imperial Navy, and is
still known as one of the best
aces in the Imperial Navy. He enjoyed several notable victories
against Rebels and Pirates.
However, he nearly destroyed his career and lost his life to
settle his personal vendetta against
the Pilak Clan.
When he learned the whereabouts of the Pilak Clan, he went AWOL.
He infiltrated the Clan, and then efficiently and ruthlessly took
each member
down in a variety of ways -- poison, bombs, a spacing, and a
starship crash.
In each case, he made it look like an accident.
When he returned to the Empire after dispatching the last member
of the Pilak Clan,
he was arrested and put on trial. In his testimony, he gave
nothing but the truth, and stated
he was prepared for the worst.
Vice-Admiral Sheppard was at the trial, and
liked what he heard. He needed someone like
Yates serving him. The tribunal was still prepared to throw the
book at him, but the Vice-Admiral
met with the tribunal and pulled some strings, and got Yates off,
due to "extraordinary actions",
and had him placed under his command.
Sheppard then immediately promoted Yates on-the-spot to Commander
and gave him the job of
CAG (Commander Air Group) of the ISD Revenger's starfighter
complement.
In return for saving his career, and possibly his life, Commander
Yates had nothing but absolute
loyalty to Sheppard, and became his "Enforcer" and
problem-solver. He currently commands
Imperial
Storm Commando Detachment #1 - "The Cleaners", in addition to his
regular duties as
CAG.
If ANYONE tries to usurp the Admiral's
authority, or Sheppard wants them to have 'an accident',
Yates takes care of it.
Usually, this has three main stages.
First: There is an ambush and a beatdown. This is a warning.
Second: Another beatdown, one that's severe enough to put them
into a hospital.
Third: This time, they're disposed of.
He also comes along with Sheppard on missions where the Admiral
has to get
his hands dirty, and when he gets the chance on these missions,
likes to go and raise havok
on the enemies.
