Captain Vegard Valberg

Official records on the Captain’s past are quite elusive. The official
records state that he was born on Tulax, a wind swept iceworld. Of his
parents, little is known except that his adopted father was a famous
scientist that for some reason, quit his job in a large corporation with
a contract to the Empire.

The reason that his age is listed as 41 years is seemingly a clerical
error in that when he joined the Imperial Navy, he used local years to
describe his age (this would make him fifteen years or so when he
joined). Either way, he got into the Imperial Navy despite of this due to
his exceptional intelligence and great physical strength.

In the Academy he excelled at physical activities, especially Martial
Arts and Marksmanship. In fact, he succeeded in beating up one of the
most feared Martial Arts instructors in the Academy by using dirty
tricks. He also proved to have a ruthless mind, and he was also a
competent, if at times heavy handed, tactician and strategist. It was
noted that he was one of the few cadets that really knew how to use
numerical and tactical superiority, instead of simply sending troops en
masse against the enemy (as was a unfortunate trend at that stage).

After the Academy, he was assigned to the Victory-class Star Destroyer
Claymore, and sent to pacify the Huak-Togh and Roddvi systems. He
executed his task with admirable efficiency.

After this, he was shifted between various commands. For a while, he
commanded a ISD under the command of Grand Moff Tarkin. It was there
that he made his infamous
“Burn or Choke” bet. Under Tarkin, his missions
became more and more protecting and escorting the Grand Moff’s giant projects.

The only real engagement he saw at this time was when he captured Bleno Station,
a large space station in a important area in space. It was nothing major (a disk some eight
kilometers in diameter, and a kilometer tall; almost purely a civilian facility). But it helped
prove his military and political ability, although once again, it proved his maxim that a simpler,
less-efficient plan is better than a complex, efficient plan. There's less chance of it going
wrong.

After this, he was transferred to one of the free roaming units. Because of this,
He was not around when the Death Star was blown to bits, although he was quite
upset believing that
Dalaa had been killed. Still, he continued to hunt down
pirates, smugglers, and other undesirables, although his tendency to
live with his ship, and his inability to deal with a enemy that would
run and hide instead of coming out to fight was unnerving.

He took up a very simple strategy when dealing with such guerrillas. He simply destroyed
every bit of support machinery in the area where they operated, burned villages, blew up
stations and depots, and killed everything that he could find. The rebels were left to fend
for themselves in a dead desolate wasteland, and his tactics also made people turn the
rebels in quicker.

Towards the twilight of the Empire, after the destruction of the Death Star II, he
became a Commodore, and commanded a fleet of ISD’s and other ships. During this
period, he first came into contact with
Commander Croyd and Commander Brescoe,
who respectively became his XO and his Engineer (although Commander Brescoe later
on joined
Vice-Admiral Glasgow's science division).

He won a great victory against the rebels by using ruthless and simple
tactics. After this, he was forced to retreat step by step. He fought the
rebels to a standstill when he managed to force them into open combat.
But his forces where whittled down by constant rebel harrying. Finally,
he made one last stab at the rebels, liberating several Imperial
personnel from their evil clutches.

After this final victory, he ran off to join
Admiral Sheppard's fleet, where he performed
admirably although his fleet had been reduced to a single Corellian Corvette.
