Captain Ian Valberg

He was found by the USS Excalibur floating in space inside a escape pod, the
manufacture of which we have been unable to identify. This was some
forty years ago. He appeared human, but a closer check up revealed that
he was not human at all. Starfleet has been unable to identify which
species he belongs to.

His childhood was spent on pleasant Batroy-2, where he was raised in a
Federation orphanage, due to him being a alien of unknown species he
warranted special attention. He matured much faster than a human would,
within five years he was a full adult, and in his initial years he also
learned much faster than a human would. He was described as a peaceful
and rather friendly individual, with great understanding for the
underlying foundations of the Federation.

When he joined Starfleet, he described his reasons as “Wanting to give
something back to my adopted nation, wanting to see new places, and make
new friends on new worlds. In fact I want to help”. He was in other
words, perfect Starfleet material.

In Starfleet Academy, he excelled at the physical parts of his training,
but his Ethics teachers said that he had a excellent grasp of the
philosophy and ethics of the Federation. He was offered a post in both
Tactical and Security, but he finally choose Tactical. He was also
marked as potential officer material.

His first position was aboard the USS Peacebringer, where he became
noted for his precise gunnery, as well as his excellent self discipline.
However it was not until he overpowered a team of Romulan infiltrators
that had tried to take over the Peacebringer during a mission near the
Neutral Zone, that he was noticed by Starfleet command. During the
emergency, he not only took control when the CO and XO were killed, he
rallied the crew to take out the infiltrators, and then when some crew
members wanted to kill the infiltrators (understandable under the
circumstances) he placed himself bodily between the infiltrators and the
aggressive crewmembers and reminded them of their duty not to harm
prisoners. Later on he was instrumental in returning the infiltrators to
the Romulans and covering up the incident.

It was now that he became the First Officer aboard the USS Boston. He
proved himself quite capable in that he always tried to look for the
peaceful way out, and refused to permit any unethical activities. During
his service aboard the USS Boston he was described as “Capable,
courageous, and extremely ethical”. He was in fact marked out for a
command of his own as soon as a suitable one could be found. On one
occasion he was offered a command, but turned it down because there were
other more deserving officers out there, once again showing his
unselfish nature.

Finally, some eight years ago, he was given the command of the
USS
Richelieu, a position that he still holds. When the Dominion War broke
out, he proved to be a relatively competent commander, although he had a
tendency to depend more on the pinpoint accuracy of
phasers than on Photon
Torpedoes or other more traditional tactics. He fought in some of the
major engagements, and by cleverly emptying anti-hydrogen particles into
space, he managed to destroy two Jem’Hadar ships as they tried to enter
warp. Neverless, this tactic has not been widely adopted by Starfleet as of yet,
it is thought too dangerous and random.

He is in excellent physical shape, or so Starfleet thinks, although it
is hard to tell when we do not know what to compare him to.
