Well, after entirely too much time slacking off and leaving this alone, I'm writing this next Fanfic Review. As usual I grade more harshly and don't particularly care if I give a bad grade. Information Key: Title Author Parts reviewed, if applicable. Score. Grading Scale: A Excellent You'll need a damn good fanfic to get this, and I don't award this score lightly. B Above Average A good fanfic, but isn't quite good enough to recieve a score of 'A' Most fanfics will probably be rated in this range. C Average Nothing special about this fanfic. It's not bad, but it isn't very good either. D Below Average Glaring flaws keep it from being considered for a higher score. For instance, poor spelling and grammar may drop a 'C' to a 'D'. F Poor The fanfic is written poorly. Grammar and spelling are nonexistant. There is not plot or it is paper-thin. I will not give this score lightly, and hope I never have to give this score or lower. I Incompetent The worst score possible in one of my fanfic reviews, added in this review because even an 'F' score might be too high. I will not give this score out simply because I don't like the fanfic or author, but because I truely believe that the fanfic is a horrible piece of work This may change to the 4.0 grading system, as it allows for more permutations than simply adding a '+' or '-'. Feel free to debate the scores, flame me, TGOD/open up with heavy weaponry. And as usual, take the review with a grain of salt: my opinion isn't the only one that matters. ST/SW Era removed due to difficulty of determining exactly *when* most of these take place. Thanks to Robert Dalton for adding my review scores to the ASVS Fanfic Archive and updating the archive in the absense of MKSheppard. Also thanks to LT. HIT-MAN for coming up with the idea of ASVS's Fanfic Reviews. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Fist of the Empire by Marina O'Leary Prologue - Part II Ch. 6c B An interesting storyline of an invasion of the Federation. The early parts were not very polished, but the quality of writing has improved greatly. The plot is thick, especially with Kirk's maneuvering (and the title of the sequal intrigues me). However, adding some more white space would be welcome (those paragraphs are rather large) and more of a backstory about the invasion would also be great. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Worlds Without End by Charles Sonnenburg All Chapters B Good fanfic that has a dizzying array of subplots (far more than ever Conquest). A rather interesting approach to the conquest of the Alpha Quadrant, as the Federation is slowly manipulated to the Empire's will. Was somewhat weak in Act I, and reached it's peak in Act II. However, when Act III was released, the quality seemed to drop even when compared to Act I. The final chapter was also disappointing: a near rehash of Return of the Jedi. Still, a good read and worth one's time. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Enemies of the Federation by Chris O'Farrell Prologue - Ch. 4A B An intriguing fanfic with a twist to the standard 'Empire invades Federation'. The inclusion of Section 31 and capture of the ISD Gray Wolf is even more interesting. I'd like to see more chapters of this work of fiction. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Glory, Honor, Courage. by Robert Dalton BoG, HB B A well-written fanfic of the standard Empire invades Federation. Nothing entirely too special plotwise, but well executed. I do like the sacrifice of the USS Glory and the inclusion of the Force (esp. the afterlife aspect)... - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Non-ASVS Fanfics Since it's my fanfic review, I'm reviewing whatever I want, dammit! However, I'll try to keep them scifi :) Undocumented Features by Entirely Too Many People Way Too Many Sections A+ http://www.eyrie.net/UF An incredible crossover series detailing the adventures of a certain band of misfits from WPI. Great work, great detail...though somewhat lacking in the technical sense (Fed-style ships engaging ISDs - and winning?). A recommended read for anyone here who enjoys fanfiction - this is, quite frankly, one of the greatest works of fanfiction out. ------------------------------------------------------------------------ Attention On Deck! by Jason Smith Prologue - Ch. 52 A http://jaddams.csw.uic.edu/aod/altaod.html Ever watch Robotech (or Macross)? This fanfic takes place in it, and shows it from a first-person point-of-view. You're taken through the various Space Wars, showing the career of a young man thrust into the real world. A must read for any fan of science fiction.
