Subject: [OT] Wisconsin Politics Date: Wed, 1 Nov 2000 22:55:03 -0600 From: "Chuck" Newsgroups: alt.startrek.vs.starwars With the focus in the United States on the Presidential race, it seems many forget the smaller races, like the ones for the state assemblies. I'm looking with particular interest at the one in Waukesha here in Wisconsin. In many of the districts the assemblymen are running unopposed, quite simply because they've done fairly well and no one feels like wasting the money trying to dethrone them (campaigning is expensive). But one man in Waukesha is stepping forward and saying that he can't let the current assemblyman run unopposed, and that he thinks he is capable of doing a much better job (he is now endorsed by one of the two major political parties). The only problem: he's 19. Still in college. Who lives with his parents. You can read the full story here: http://www.jsonline.com/news/wauk/oct00/jensen25102400a.asp I'm sure some of you might think he'd make a great assemblyman, but frankly I think it's a joke. You read the list of qualifications it's like something out of Mad Magazine. Candidate A's experience: former chief of staff to Gov. Tommy G. Thompson, Assembly speaker since November 1997, Assembly majority leader 1995, former co-chairman of legislative Joint Finance Committee, former public relations executive Candidate B's experience: Carroll College student senate; vice president of Carroll College Democrats I can just imagine after his election. "And in other news Waukesha assemblyman was criticized for his stance on state-funded HMOs. In response he announced, 'Blow me.' No other comment was made on the subject, although he did announce that he was, quote 'too sexy for his hat.'" -- Chuck http://www.sfdebris.com
