The Swift Boating of Jimmy Carter
My fellow Americans, there is among us one so evil, so fiendish, so wicked that his diabolical plans must be stopped at all costs. He is an anti-Semite and Nazi-lover. And his name is…
…Jimmy Carter.
Jimmy Carter? The peanut farmer/ Bible-thumper/ ex-President who builds houses for the poverty stricken? Apparently so, according to lying, shrieking Likudnik banshees like Alan Dershowitz, Monroe Freedman and Michael Medved.
How Carter, a President who started the annual billion-dollar payoffs to Israel and Egypt (danegeld to get Egypt to leave Israel alone) and who fired UN Ambassador Andrew Young for saying that in his opinion, the Palestinians should have their own country; can possibly be labeled a Jew-hater is readily apparent when one takes notice of who is slandering him, how and why.
Carter committed an unpardonable sin by writing a book (Palestine: Peace Not Apartheid) about the Israel-Palestine conflict that points directly at the Emperor’s nakedness. Namely, there is no chance of any real peace between the two parties until Israel stops its campaign of piecemeal ethnic cleansing and landsnatching against the Palestinians. That this proposition would cause such hysterical reaction in the United States, a country that has its own rich history of purging natives from their land, would be humorous were it not so sad.
So now we have a former American President who has been lauded by even his strongest right-wing opponents for over 25 years as an honest, decent, “godly” (this is meant as a compliment from that crowd) man, being called a neo-Nazi, anti-Semite, liar, plagiarist, coward et al who supports “terrorism” -all by groupies of a foreign power.
These neo-Kahanist miscreants have taken a page from the Shit Boaters and pill-popping white supremacist Rush Limbaugh in their slander campaign against Carter.
How so? The Shit Boaters are perhaps the best-known practitioners of the The Big Lie -aside from the author of The Big Lie, of course. They knew that the more preposterous the lie, the more likely people were to believe it. So war hero John Kerry was smeared as a coward and traitor who didn’t earn his medals, even though the U.S. Navy and the men who actually served with him say he did. They were also masters of churning out lies faster than they could be debunked. This is “moving the goalposts” with gusto.
Jabba the Rush Limbaugh is an example of how it’s best to get someone who is already covered in sewage to dirty up someone else. When Michael J. Fox came out in favor of stem cell research, Limbaugh accused him of faking his illness. He also smeared Cindy Sheehan and accused her of faking her own son’s death. Why should anyone with clean hands want to scrape the bottom of the sewer for something to fling at others when you have slimy filthy characters to do it instead? If the victim responds, he’s stuck wrestling with a person covered in excrement. Either way, he ends up dirty.
So which piles of human waste were scooped up to be hurled at Jimmy Carter? We can start with serial plagiarist, liar and fraudster Alan Dershowitz, who spends his spare time sliming survivors of the Nazi Holocaust. He tried to challenge Carter to a “debate” at Brandeis University. Either this was an attempt to bait Carter into wrestling a chimneysweep and ending up covered in soot, or Israel’s apologists can’t come up with anyone to challenge Carter who didn’t represent O.J. Simpson. Needless to say, Carter wanted no part of being on stage with a debater whose main editorial outlet is Penthouse, a magazine best known for its photographs of women urinating.
Then there’s serial liar, C-list radio host and D-list movie critic Michael Medved. To be accused of anti-Jewish bigotry by a pseudo-intellectual like Medved is like being called a fat racist junkie by Rush Limbaugh. As I pointed out in a previous entry, Medved invited David Horowitz -a crank who runs a Holocaust denier website- on his show in order to smear Holocaust a survivor. I guess David Irving was too busy.
Finally, we come to Monroe Freedman, a law professor who claims (almost thirty years later) that then-President Carter sent him a memo in his own handwriting claiming that there were too many Jews on the Holocaust Memorial Council. He also claims that one of Carter’s subordinates rejected a Presbyterian minister from the council’s board because his name seemed too “Jewish”.
Where to begin? Like the Swift Boat Liars who waited until John Kerry won the early primaries in 2004 before they started defaming him, Freedman’s timing is suspicious. Surely if any such thing had ever happened he wouldn’t have waited until Carter had written a book critical of Israeli Lebensraum three decades later.
The fact that Freedman hasn’t produced this memo is also damning. Of course it’s the M.O. of the crazed Right to claim to have documents to back up their claims, but never produce them. Once again, the Shit Boaters and their allies are a prime example of this sleight-of-hand. Crank pseudo-historian Guenter Lewy claimed that he had read an official report from the U.S. Navy showing that a number of the so-called “Winter Soldiers” (servicemen who testified about war crimes in Vietnam) weren’t war veterans at all. When asked to produce this document, Lewy changed his story. For the record, the Navy never produced any such report. In fact, there are no Navy records that so much as mention any such report. Lewy was making it up.
This was also used against Cindy Sheehan in the summer of 2005 when war whores accused her of sending an “anti-Semitic” e-mail to ABC’s Nightline. One columnist for the Dallas Morning News flat-out called her an anti-Semite. ABC News has never produced any such e-mail. If this bait-and-switch sounds familiar it should. Joe McCarthy used to hold up blank sheets of paper and claimed they contained lists of known Russian spies working in the State Department.
Freedman goes one better than the Swift Boat Liars. He doesn’t just invent a document that nobody else has seen, he invents people out of thin air as well.

Freedman, who served on the council during Carter’s term as president, also revealed a noted Holocaust scholar who was a Presbyterian Christian was rejected from the council’s board by Carter’s office because the scholar’s name “sounded too Jewish.”
This tall tale gets better:
He said at the behest of the White House he composed another board consisting of more non-Jews. But he said he was “stunned” when Carter’s office objected to a non-Jew whose name sounded Jewish.
Freedman said he could not provide the historians name to WND because he did not have the man’s permission.
“I got a phone call from our liaison at the White House saying this particular historian whose name sounded Jewish would not do. The liaison said he would not even take the time to present Carter with the possibility of including the historian on the board because he knew Carter would think the name sounded too Jewish. I explained the historian is Presbyterian, but the liaison said it wouldn’t matter to Carter.”
Freedman said he was “outraged by this absurdity.”
So outraged that he carried out Carter’s evil anti-Semitic plan? Please. This “liaison” and the “historian” have about as much chance of being real people as Jar Jar Binks. Freedman pulled them straight out of his ass.
Israel’s fanwhore apologists must be getting desperate. They used to confine their smear campaigns to college professors and others with little clout. In the past couple of years they’ve gone after everyone from Steven Spielberg to Holocaust survivors and their families, to the mother of a soldier killed in Iraq to the FBI, to Walt & Mearsheimer…
… to Jimmy Carter.
